Employment Services

North Side has recently expanded its Employment Services Program. The program is designed to increase the income of program participants, improve job readiness and place participants in employment that will not only provide living wages, but be a springboard to a career and not just a job. Program components are:

Pathways Street Program, Inc.

In partnership with Central Lakeview Merchants Association (CLMA) and NSHSS-owned Pathways Street Program, Inc., NSHSS administers Pathways, supported employment program and social enterprise for the men that we serve. They are employed to perform street cleaning and beautification projects, set-up and take down of equipment for community concerts, street festivals, fundraisers and other events, which allow them to earn money and build a foundation to become permanently re-employed. Both participants in our Permanent Supportive Housing and Interim Housing Programs are eligible. However, they must have valid work documents such as social security cards, drivers licenses and/or state identification cards.

PeoplePower, LLC - 28 Days to Employment

Starting in February of 2010, North Side will partner with PeoplePower, LLC to offer it’s innovative job readiness and placement program, 28 Days to Employment. This system “fosters ingenuity, self-confidence, motivation, and success while building bridges of understanding between students, community-based organizations, state and local policymakers, employees and employers.”
Yolanda White, Training Specialist for the program had this to say:

” I am writing to issue support of the 28 Days to Employment system. This is a program that looks at more than just what a job needs from you, but encourages participants to examine themselves accordingly. Our clients who are enrolled in the program have made a commitment to this self-assessment and to becoming better citizens and members of a viable workforce, no matter which they choose. I have found that the program enhances and develops self-esteem, because they find skills and abilities that they never recognized as skills and abilities…”

North Side looks forward to working with this innovative program and is confident it will bring an enhanced dimension to our existing program and move participants forward.
