Prepare and Serve Meals at our Shelter

We're always looking for small groups to prepare and serve meals at our shelter. We need the most help on weekends, from either 10AM - 1PM or 4PM - 7PM. Volunteers must be 18 years or older to cook. Opportunities will start in January of 2025.

Host a Fundraiser or Donation Drive

Help raise awareness about homelessness and leverage your network to gather in-kind or financial donations that support individuals in need. Whether you choose to organize a donation drive for items like socks, coats, or food, or raise funds, we’ll support you every step of the way to maximize your impact and engage your community.

Join the Associate Board

Are you a young professional eager to connect with others and help raise awareness and resources to combat homelessness in Chicago? We’re relaunching our Associate Board in 2025! As a member, you’ll play a key role in planning fundraising events for NSHSS, while also developing your skills and expanding your network.

Complete an Internship​

Are you a student looking to gain hands-on experience while making a difference in the fight against homelessness in Chicago? Join us as an intern at NSHSS! As an intern, you’ll support our efforts to provide critical services to those in need, gain valuable skills in nonprofit work, and have the opportunity to make a real impact in your community. A minimum 10 weeks is required for interns.

Spend time with Residents at the Shelter

The residents at our men's shelter love interacting with their neighbors and having a chance to relax and have some fun. Consider dropping by our shelter to talk with our residents, play games, do a demonstration or organize a fun activity. Opportunities will start in January of 2025.
