One year ago, our 70-bed men’s shelter in Rogers Park opened for the very first time. What began as an empty construction site is now a safe, welcoming home where hundreds of men have found stability, support, and a path forward. This milestone is a reminder of how far we have come and how much more is possible with community behind us.
In its first 12 months, the shelter has already made a powerful impact. Together with our supporters and partners, we have:
Served more than 170 men
Provided nearly 21,000 nights of shelter
Cooked and served over 63,000 meals
These numbers show what is possible when people have a safe place to rest, heal, and rebuild their lives.
Then and Now: A Look Inside the Transformation
To honor this first anniversary, we created a gallery of before-and-after photos that capture the transformation of our shelter spaces. From dorm-style rooms that offer privacy and dignity to bright community areas and a fully equipped kitchen, this building now reflects the hope and humanity we see in the men we serve every day.
Why This Moment Matters
Winter is approaching, and the need for shelter continues to grow. More men are coming through our doors seeking warmth, meals, and support. This anniversary is not just a reflection of the past year — it is a call to continue building a future where everyone has a place to call home.
As part of our GivingTuesday effort, two generous donors have committed to match all gifts up to $20,000. Early donations count toward the match, so every gift made today will be doubled and help us reach our goal.
Your support helps keep our doors open, our kitchen running, and our staff ready to meet the growing needs of our community.
Thank You for Being Part of This First Year
This shelter is more than a building. It is a community, a refuge, and a fresh start for the men who walk through our doors. We are deeply grateful for everyone who helped make this first year possible.
Here’s to year two of our shelter for homeless men — and to creating even more safety, stability, and home for our neighbors in need.
