April Newsletter: Healing Through Art, Powered by People Like You

From powerful moments in our first art therapy session, to opening up volunteer opportunities in our new shelter, we’re seeing healing and hope in action. Your support makes it all possible. Read on to see what’s new at our homeless shelter this April—and how you can be part of it.

🎨 New Art Therapy Program was Launched

Last week, in a new partnership with The Open Studio Project, we hosted our first art therapy session for the men in our Rogers Park shelter. The response has been incredibly powerful. Creative tools like drawing give men the space to explore their experiences, share what words can’t, and continue healing at their own pace. We can't wait to share more about this program as it evolves, and we are so grateful to The Peoples Church of Chicago for the funding to make this possible!

🤝 Volunteer With Us

Want to see the shelter in action and make a meaningful impact? We’re now welcoming volunteers to help with Cooking and Serving Meals and Sorting Donated Clothing at our Rogers Park shelter. Whether you’re cooking alongside friends or helping with behind-the-scenes essentials, every hour you give helps restore dignity and build community for homeless men on their path to stability. Sign up for a shift today by clicking the link below! Please note: anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and nobody under 14 is allowed in the kitchen. For questions, contact us at volunteer@northsidehousing.org

💙 A Donation Can Help Us Do Even More

Programs like art therapy, volunteer coordination, and trauma-informed shelter care are only possible because of donors like you. Your gift helps us meet urgent needs, build long-term housing plans, and support over 200 men this year on their journey out of homelessness.

Please consider making a tax-deductible gift today—because healing starts with a safe place and a little hope.

Interested in hosting a donation drive? We are always in need of gently used clothing and small items that help make an apartment a home. See our wishlist below, and contact us at development@northsidehousing.org so we can support your efforts!

Our mission is to end homelessness in the lives of individuals by providing housing and comprehensive supportive services. We also strive to eradicate the conditions that cause, contribute to and exacerbate homelessness.
